August 2024 Newsletter

Welcome to our August newsletter! This month, we're bringing you essential Medicare updates, helpful tips for enjoying a perfect day at the beach, and much more.

Coming Soon

Medicare Part D (Prescription drug) is implementing a new convenience next year --the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (MPPP). Beginning in 2025, Part D plans -- including standalone Medicare prescription drug plans -- will offer enrollees the option to pay out-of-pocket prescription drug costs in monthly payments instead of all at once at the pharmacy.

After paying the initial deductible, an enrollee will pay 25 percent of drug costs. They will not spend more than $2,000 a year in out-of-pockets costs. The coverage gap stage will be eliminated.

It’s hoped that a stable MPPP monthly payment will make it easier for Medicare beneficiaries to budget for prescription drug costs.

This new plan was mandated under the Inflation Reduction Act

Levels of Hospice Care

It's likely that many of us will eventually need to arrange for hospice care for ourselves or a loved one.

It's essential that we are aware of the Four Levels of Hospice Care.

When exploring hospice facilities, make sure these levels – also called stages – are addressed at the facilities you review.

  • Hospice Care at Home
  • Continuous Hospice Care
  • Inpatient Hospice Care
  • Respite Care

Once a patient starts getting hospice care, his or her Medicare hospice benefit should cover everything related to a terminal illness.

Beach Day

No matter what your age, a day at the beach can be a pleasant diversion from everyday activities.

And there are ways to make sure your day at the beach is a great one. Here are some tips for making sure your day is fun and safe (Florida Panhandle.com).

  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Identify nearby medical facilities.
  • Take a short trip on a weekend.
  • Check your tires and brakes.
  • Park near the lifeguard.
  • Only walk on safe pathways.
  • Remember where you parked.

Getting Coverage for Hearing and More

As we get older, many of us experience a decline in hearing. This can, of course, be treated with hearing aids.

However, hearing is something that Medicare does not cover (as is the case with dental and vision) care.

But American Senior Benefits can help. We can help you obtain DVH (dental, vision and hearing) coverage that may help with hearing aids and other care.

You should know this regarding hearing aids. Research shows that hearing aids may help reduce the risk of cognitive decline (dementia). (CNN)
